Literally hundreds of different nets have been made for these vehicles, and we find about 10 designs that have proved to be the most popular for the Hi-Top Dodge or Mercedes Sprinter Passenger Vans. Ultimately, what we’d really like to do is make one basic cargo net for these vehicles that we can make either here in the USA or overseas (preferably Mexico), but we’ll see what 2020 brings. If we’re able to do this, the Mercedes or Dodge Hi-Top Sprinter van will be the first. We also have many designs for the Medium Sprinter as well as many other passenger vehicles including the Ford Transit and Dodge Caravan among others.
Next step? We’ll be taking these 10 designs and creating a basic cargo net that can be offered off the shelf and that can be used in any hi-top sprinter. Here’s the challenge. The challenge is taking all of our previous custom cargo net designs for this particular vehicle and combining them into one basic cargo net that will answer the concerns for any customer we’ve ever had with this vehicle, so they can mount it any way they want. We will not provide the anchors for this net as many customers will want possibly a different design of anchor or tie down, and may very well be using either the E-track or L-track systems.
Can it be done? Of course it can. We did it with the CargoCatch Pickup Truck Bed Organizer, our first product. My brother and I literally drove around measuring thousands of truck beds, with and without rail caps, with and without bedliners (OEM or otherwise) and those with or without truck bed covers. Having the manufacturers specifications were great, sure, but people tweak their trucks, so we were trying to give it an overall feel without the pressures of specs. We ended up making two sizes for medium and full size trucks, with certain truck beds able to accept either size. So yes, it can be done. We’ll just need to hang out at a Sprinter dealer for a couple weeks, pull up a chair, stare for days at the cargo area of the Sprinter, maybe have a few beers and a buddy tossing suggestions around as well as criticism, and we’ll get it done. This is what product development is all about.
