cargo gate truck bed

Here is a recent exchange with a Loading Zone cargo gate customer who needed a little personal attention:

“Bill,

It has been a pleasure speaking with you.

Attached please find two pictures outlining the proposed location of the cargo gate (see carboard tubbing).

As mentioned, the gate is meant to divide the bed of the truck into two areas with the main goal of protecting the cargo in the forward compartment (about 18-20” from the front of the wheel wells to the front wall of the bed) from other cargo sliding around in the rear compartment between the cargo gate and the tailgate.

As always, should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The dimension you are looking for is approximately 22.5” BUT, that is Not to the top of the truck bed rail.

That is from the bed rug to the top of the truck bed rail plus the lip of the camper shell which sits on top of the truck bed rail (see diagram below).

The Top of the Bed Rail is not accessible.

Likewise, the top of Camper lip (rail) is also not accessible (or at this point not easily accessible) because of the aluminum rail mounted on top (see diagram)

We can manufacture and modify anything, of course, but I am hoping the cargo gate screws into the sides of the bed or grabs the rail from underneath and it is not through-bolted through the rail of the bed of the truck.

Again, I can make it work either way but now that we are talking, it would be nice if there were alternative mounting options so we won’t have to reinvent the wheel.

I greatly appreciate your assistance.

cargo gate specs

spec sheet for cargo gate on truck with camper shell

The rail to rail ID is about 62” at the location where the gate will be installed.

Below the rail, the wall to wall ID is 71”

Wheel well to wheel well is 50”

And the height of the wheel well (maximum height at the wall – It is actually tapered) is approximately 8.75”

Please note that although the dimensions of the truck body are very precise, the dimensions od the fiberglass camper shell are not.

There are 0.125” –  0.5” dimensional differences between campers as well within the same camper.

Please allow for small adjustments.

Hope this helps.”

Don’t know where that one came from, it just did.  Turns out it’s CSI in FL.  They have a couple of 2020-2021 pickup trucks that have camper shells with a Bedrug Bedliner.  Bottom line, they need their stuff protected, and that’s what we do.  We work with a lot of customers like this as they need special attention paid in order to make it work.

We had to estimate the give on the current part #’s in the mix with regard to the cargo gates.  So, we just estimated it, in conjunction of course with consult from professional Warren Kaminski, the master designer and horse’s mouth when it comes to auto aftermarket connections regarding cargo gates.

It was an obvious answer for Warren, using 1301 feet possibly to make up for the potential differences in specs with either the top and/or the cover and/or the basic makeup of the bedrug, we’ll see how it turns out in the long run, but we’re pretty sure about this one…Warren very rarely makes mistakes in these situations.

Times have changed.  These little companies like we, the few and proud, and people that provide unparalleled customer service for the automotive aftermarket.   We have given up on the current times.  However, we will never give up on our products or our customers as we chart uncharted territory in this country that has turned into a country filled with whining little babies it seems crying about this and that while we reap the benefits of being free to think and design, as they have, but they choose to complain, be violent and cry.  It’s a sad state of affairs from our perspectives.  We just want to help guys with trucks.

We love our customers, anywhere in the World.  We know we’ve taken a hit, but we will always do our best.  If you know us, you know the element of the boys, inside.  “We will always recommend you to somebody we know” is how we survive.  We are the real designers, we are the few and far between, but we exist and always will…”Pura Vida” as Warren likes to say.

Need a custom product like maybe a custom cargo net tout de suite?  You never know.  Give us a call and see what we may have in store for you~!!!
