New Toyota Hybrid Pickup Trucks Coming Out

The new Toyota Hybrid Pickup Trucks are coming out in about a year a Toyota sales guy told me a couple days ago, in Goleta, California.  He told me they would be replacing the Diesel trucks, during a service drop off today, for my 2002 Sienna Passenger Van, which my dad sold to me for $1 when I lost the tranny on my ’03 Tundra with the suicide doors, not the double cab.  This is the truck I built the CargoCatch pickup truck organizer around.   So happy we can look forward to the new Toyota Hybrid Pickup Trucks.

So, basically, instead of buying the new Diesel Toyota Pickup Truck, you’d be buying the Hybrid.  He didn’t specify which truck it would be, but the rumor is, it will be the Tacoma, and we’re hoping the full size Trundra trucks will fall in line.  Honestly it was a big time wake up call for me.  I’m an old fashioned type, and waiting for Chevy to come out with something similar…we’ll see what the market looks like in a year.

Sure, the price tag may be a bit more than current gas only powered trucks, but let’s face it, once you see that gas savings given the average MPG these new hybrids get, Holy Moly, it will blow your mind, I’m hoping, now, it’s just a matter of time.

When I left the lot after dropping off my 2002 Sienna Van for service, and I saw that the rental, it averaged 53.5 MPG (the Corolla Hybrid), my heart dropped, into the $$$ filled Deep Green Sea where I started dreaming of adrenaline filled experiences occupying my days, as my savings accounts grew exponentially from the savings. While driving this Corolla, I realized that when we were on the freeway, the RPM gauge for moving forward dropped to 0, that is 0 on the freeway, when we no longer needed gas, only to maintain our speed using the ECO option.  I started seeing the dollar signs flashing in front of my eyes and all of a sudden I realized all my wildest dreams could come true if only I could have a hybrid pickup truck that worked for my cargo management needs.

My ’02 Toyota Sienna Van gets about 16-17 MPG, while this Corolla Hybrid gets 53.5 MPG average, so if you’re going long distance on a long never ending road like the 101 or the 5 in California, you’re looking possibly at averaging 75 MPG.  This is just ridiculous.  It’s an easy sale.  I’m hoping that in a year or so, that new hybrid pickup truck will be able to adjust to about the same, given the load that you may or may not be restraining, and leave it up to Graham to determine what kind of cargo net you may need on this bad boy.  Bottom of the book on this one is that depending on your need respective of breaking strength on these new rail systems for the beds, or the anchor capacity, will determine how strong we need to make the cargo nets, etc…

Here’s the text message I got from Toyota after dropping off my van:  “Hi, this is Rachel@Toyota of Santa Barbara.  Check engine light is a result of a faulty engine control module.  It’s not feeding and monitoring gasses going to the catalytic converter correctly.  We do not have it in stock and has to be special ordered.  There is limited availability, should be here by Wednesday (5 days).  It’s $2,216.84 installed.”  Now, I don’t know what some basic Joe would charge me from Whatever, CA, so I decided to take the manufacturer and eat the cost too because I don’t have to worry about warranty, chances are since we took such good care of this vehicle for so long, well, it’s an easy sale, let’s do it, so we did.  Now, we look forward to the new Toyota Hybrid Pickup Trucks.
